Regulation and ethicsIn its encouragement of the growth of the State's biotechnology industry, the Queensland Government has put in place mechanisms to ensure activities in the sector occur within a strong and transparent ethical regulatory environment. Queensland was the first jurisdiction in Australia to establish a biotechnology code of ethics and introduce world's best-practice biodiscovery legislation to ensure streamlined, sustainable access to the state's rich biodiversity. Queensland was also the first state to pass complementary legislation to the Commonwealth's stem cell legislation and is the only Australian state to have not imposed moratoria on the commercial production of genetically modified food crops.
